Karate or Karatedo is an international sport that is enjoyed by people of all ages. But prior to Karate to becoming a sport, it was a deadly self defence method practiced by a select few in the tiny island of Okinawa. The characters for Karate (empty hand) were originally 'Chinese hand techniques' (Karate Jutsu) which can also be pronounced Toshu Jutsu.
The International Toshu Jutsu Federation is a research group for Karate Jutsu practitioners who are interested in teaching Karate the way it was prior to the advent of Sport Karate.
ITJF Instructors are committed to teaching Karate in a purely practical fashion for self defence.
The International Toshu Jutsu Federation is based in England and affiliated to the United Kingdom Budo Federation and its parent group the New Japan Budo Federation.
